History
Hawkins Glass (HGW) was in the wholesale glass manufacturing and distribution fields until February 2012. It manufactured and distributed many products to multiple markets, including: bullet resistant, tempered, laminated and insulated glass, mirrors, table tops and obscure glass. HGW serves the local area while also shipping many products worldwide.
Hawkins Glass is a limited liability corporation based in Virginia. It was founded in 1932 & relocated from Washington, DC to Marlow Heights, MD in 1965. Under the direction of new management in the 1980s, HGW achieved significant growth & eventually relocated again to Waldorf, MD.
In 1998, Eastern Moulding, HGW’s wholesale picture frame division, was sold to Larson Juhl. Following the sale, HGW moved to Springfield, VA and moved into the manufacturing field. The steady growth in sales and customers created a need for more equipment and warehouse space, so HGW designed and built a warehouse in Stafford, VA in 2005. In 2001 the company entered the government contracting space as a provider of ballistic and military products, and moved that division to Lorton, VA to better address the security requirements of its customers. As the ballistics division grew, the flat glass division remained in Stafford, VA until it was sold to Grey Mountain Industries in February 2012. Since then, HGW has focused exclusively on its ballistic and military product lines.
Hawkins Glass has built its reputation on its stellar customer service. It takes pride on maintaining relationships with customers for up to 40 years. The trust and support that HGW provides its customer base has been the foundation on which the company has grown and diversified into many fields within the glass industry.
In addition to the required training for safety and machinery use and operation, employees are provided with intensive training for their specific job duties. Exceptional employees are cross-trained to allow them to step into multiple positions.
All products are purchased from several suppliers so that short-falls in inventory are avoided. HGW tries to use small businesses for sub-contracted items provided that the companies meet HGW’s quality standards and production schedule. On average, 65% or more of HGW’s subcontracting goes to small businesses.
